Case Study at Siem Pang: Advanced Conservation Systems and Technological Integration

Organized by the Conservation Vietnam, the field trip to Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary from November 25 to 30, 2024, provided invaluable experiences in nature conservation and fostering connections between people and nature. WildAct had the privilege of joining GreenViet, CHOICE, CCD, and SVW on this journey to exchange knowledge and learn from one another about conservation practices.

Networking opportunities with conservation organizations

During the trip, participants had the chance to witness and learn from cutting-edge conservation activities in the field. The team observed the use of EarthRanger for efficient patrol management, integrated with modern radio tracking systems, enabling conservationists to continuously monitor and track wildlife in the area. These tools provided crucial data on rare and endangered species, ensuring timely interventions for their protection.

What makes Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary remarkable is its status as home to many rare species, including the Bengal Vulture, Siamese Crocodile, and the critically endangered White-shouldered Ibis, as listed in the IUCN Red List. The trip offered deeper insights into the lives of these species and the importance of conserving them within their natural habitats. Siem Pang also links wildlife protection with sustainable livelihoods through the development and promotion of organic rice, boosting the local economy while maintaining eco-friendly agriculture.
