Trang Nguyen's Visit to Kenya's Lumo Conservation: Lessons for WildAct's Biodiversity Efforts
Wildct is proud to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the meaningful art project held at Alliance Française in Bangkok. This initiative is not just an art exhibition but a groundbreaking effort combining the power of art and science to support biodiversity conservation in Southeast Asia.
From November 25–28, 2024, Alliance Française Bangkok is hosting the exhibition “From Scientific Expeditions to a Graphic Novel,” showcasing art pieces deeply rooted in science. Among these is the remarkable work by artist Estelle CRUZ, "Fluorescence of Cuc Phuong, n°3," which is currently on display. This artwork aims to raise awareness about conservation efforts in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Bridging Art and Science: A New Path for Conservation
What makes this project unique is its ability to connect art and science—two seemingly distinct fields that complement one another in conveying conservation messages. Estelle CRUZ's artwork is not merely visually captivating but also serves as a powerful medium to emphasize the urgency of protecting biodiversity, encouraging greater participation in practical conservation efforts.
The artist spent over two years collaborating with scientists and conservation experts to create these meaningful pieces. Inspired by scientific expeditions in natural reserves, her works blend creativity with in-depth research on endangered species and critical ecosystems.
The piece "Fluorescence of Cuc Phuong, n°3" portrays the enigmatic beauty of Cuc Phuong National Park, a renowned tropical forest in Vietnam. It highlights the fragility of wildlife facing extinction threats. Furthermore, 50% of the proceeds from the sale of these artworks will directly fund nature conservation projects, supporting the protection of rare species in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia.
Combining Art with Conservation to Drive Change
The exhibition “From Scientific Expeditions to a Graphic Novel” exemplifies how art and science can come together to generate positive impacts for nature conservation. WildAct believes that art is a vital tool to inspire and galvanize community action on pressing environmental issues.
WildAct hopes this project marks the beginning of many more initiatives that unite art with nature conservation. We aim to expand collaboration opportunities with artists, organizations, and creators passionate about bridging art and environmental protection. Such artistic endeavors not only heighten public awareness but also build connections across countries, fostering a robust network to address global conservation challenges.
